プランナー志望の皆さんにワンポイントアドバイスがあります:
Learn English.
そう。「英語を学べ」と言うことです。
Why should I learn English? Especially when I'm trying to get a job in the Japanese game industry? All I really need is Japanese!
This, my friend is where we disagree. There's a wealth of information being shared-in English-that could improve your skills. The English speaking game development community is willing to openly share a lot of incredibly valuable information about everything from the latest in efficient product development to sales figures and everything in between.
A lot of tools for rapidly prototyping game ideas for free are available in English. Developing original titles requires rapid, efficient prototyping. Creating extensive documents and presenting them between iterations slows things down. The most well polished and highly original titles go through hundreds of prototypes.
Quick and dirty prototypes can be very effective. A very highly acclaimed action game's final combat system was based on a 2D prototype that consisted of colored circles bashing into each other. Going from colored circles in 2D to an elaborate 3D combat system requires a lot of imagination and creativity.
Remarkable, isn't it? In Japan, development methodology is treated like a closely guarded trade secret, and yet a highly successful developer is divulging this information to the public. There is one small caveat; great swathes of this information is written in English as opposed to Japanese.
As Japan continues to adopt tools and technologies developed by the English speaking world, the pressure to do so will only grow.
